Film & TV Language: Mise-en-scene video feedback and learner response

1) Type up your feedback from your teacher in full.

Opening of scene shows clear thought behind dialogue and camera shot. Placement and movement aspect of mis-en-scene is good but costume/shoes are so important for character and are slightly different to original.

Locations are generally very good (perhaps teacher going outside aside) but costume/casting of teacher could have been closer to original!

Editing and sound is generally good!

2) Type up a summary of the feedback you have had from the rest of the class - bullet points is fine

  • Good acting and movement
  • Good choice of location
  • good dialogue
  • Accurate angles
  • costume could have been better
  • Good lighting

3) Use all the feedback you've been given to write your own self-assessment of your video using WWW (What Went Well) and EBI (Even Better If...)

WWW: i had the right idea and set the right theme for the overall production to feel like a recreation

EBI: I need to focus on the details that really set the tone of recreation (costume and movement)

4) Now reflect on your own work in more detail. How did your planning (script, shot list) help clarify and develop your ideas?

Planning out each scene separately based on when the camera cuts really helped make things easier. The script was fairly easy to prepare as there were not that many lines of dialogue

5) Thinking technically, how could you improve your work for future videos? (E.g. filming, editing, audio levels etc.)

Prepare earlier to have time to make adjustments and make things better. Try new things when editing

6) Finally, what have you learned regarding the importance of mise-en-scene in film and television? Write a paragraph to answer this.

Mis-en-scene is a make or break when trying to portray a specific atmosphere. The lighting itself sets a bold statement and then the costume adds on to the personality of each character. Props and set dressing communicate enigma codes and the setting establishes the initial tone of the scene. Domestic settings bring audiences comfort and communicate a safe atmosphere whereas a dark alleyway would cause an audience to be wary, uncomfortable and nervous
